Papal Elections

7:30pm, Friday, 14th March 2025
Join author and historian Dr. Stella Fletcher as she explains the history of Papal Elections (Conclaves) . When popes exercised political power, their selection process was a matter of intense interest to secular rulers. That political dimension has not survived but the drama surrounding papal elections remains, as illustrated by Robert Harris’s 2016 novel Conclave, and the 2024 film adaptation.
It may be possible to appreciate the book and film without a knowledge of papal history, but appreciation is enhanced by an understanding of actual conclaves. Fact may or may not be stranger than fiction, but it is certainly more interesting!
Booking Essential! Contact Pat Barlow on 07855 755859 or by email at patbarlow@libraryfriendsswish.org.uk
